Zhang Shenshi, an aeronavigator among New China's first batch of pilots, was born in 1927, and he joined the army in 1949 and passed away in 2004. For more than 70 years, he deeply hid his merit and fame, and never talked about his great meritorious military service. He is a combat hero of the people, and the pride of our pilots. It was not until his files were uncovered that we really saw the pilot's great sacrifice and his marks on the history of the People's Republic of China.

他于1927年出生，1949年参军，2004年与世长辞。70多年里，他深藏功与名，淡泊名利，闭口不谈自己的赫赫战功。他是人民的战斗英雄，我国飞行员的骄傲。可是直到他的档案被翻出后，我们才真正看到这位飞行员伟大的牺牲以及他在新中国史上留下的浓墨重彩的一笔——他就是新中国首批飞行员中的领航员张申是。

The pilots of that generation were groping arduously, fighting at the dangerous forefront. In the War to Resist United States Aggression and Aid Korea, in cooperation with the ground force, he successfully completed the first night bombing mission. In 1952 and 1954, he participated in the military parade on the National Day, the opening of the Tibet air route and the trial voyage to Lhasa. With his participation and witness, the Chinese Air Force has achieved many “first” times repeatedly.

那一代的飞行员，艰辛摸索，战斗在危机四伏的最前线。在抗美援朝战争中，他配合陆军作战，出色地完成了首次夜间轰炸任务。国庆阅兵式、开辟西藏航线、试航拉萨都有他的身影。在他的参与与见证下，中国空军实现了一个又一个“第一次”。

The pilots of that generation had tough and dangerous working conditions. There were often many dangerous situations in performing the tasks. For example, an engine caught fire in the air during a National Day review flight. When going to Lhasa to test the air route, his life was threatened at Dangxiong Airport, which was more than 5,000 meters high, because he could not eat. But he never got into panic or had the mood of retreating and complaining. In the face of the ups and downs in the eventful years, he did not show any cowardice and flinch. What he had was the courage to face sacrifice and the belief that the weak would defeat the strong.

那一代的飞行员，条件艰苦，工作危险。在执行各类任务时，危机层出不穷：国庆检阅试飞中，发动机在空中起火；前往拉萨测试航线时，在五千多米的当雄机场，驾驶员们因无法进食遭遇生命威胁等。然而，他从未惶惶失措或退却抱怨。面对峥嵘岁月中的起起伏伏，他没有表现出一丝一毫的怯弱与退缩，有的是无惧牺牲的勇气和以一当十、以弱胜强的信念。

The pilots of that generation are the epitome of the People's Liberation Army and the hope of the country. There were countless soldiers like Zhang Shenshi who acted as the country's sharpest knives, always listening to the call of the motherland, and defending our sovereignty to the death and safeguarding the security of our territory and the happiness of our people. All of us should live with the certainty that in the years of war, we face death unflinchingly; In times of peace, we perform our duties at our best.

那一代的飞行员，是解放军的缩影和国家的希望。在张申是的背后，是无数同他一样的解放军战士：他们是国家最锋利的尖刀，时刻听从祖国召唤，誓死捍卫主权，保障国土安全和人民的幸福生活。所有人都应当怀着这样的信念去生活：战争岁月，视死如归；和平年代，鞠躬尽瘁。
