The Institute of Foreign Language Education of Zhejiang Normal University is attached tothe Collegeof Foreign Language of Zhejiang Normal University, which has established doctoral and postdoctoral program in the discipline of foreign Chinese and literature since 2021. Itspredecessor was the Center for Basic Foreign Language Education and Research, established on January 4, 2015. The institute consists of 21 researchers, among which 7 have doctoral degrees and two are working on their doctoral program. There are 6 professors and 7 associate professors in the institute. It also has 25 affiliates, who are distinguished English teachers orresearchers in primary and secondary educationat the municipal and provincial levels in Zhejiang Province.
Until 2024, the members of the institute have won a project of the National Social Science Fund and anumber of projects from the Ministry of Education. In recent years, members in the institute have published articles in such prestigious international journals asJournal of Linguistic Anthropology, Language and Communication, and also well-known domestic journals such as Modern Foreign Language, Foreign Language World, Curriculum, Textbook and Teaching Method, and Foreign Language Electronic Teaching, and published numerous teacher development monographs, too.
The institute’s research focuses on language education, second language acquisition, classroom discourse studies, and teacher development. The core members of the instituteorganizethe professional development workshopsfor teachers from both provincial and national levels. In addition, in November 2015, the centerorganized a forum on the reform of English reading instruction by famous teachers in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, which drewmore than 1,000 participants to attend. On April 16, 2016, during the anniversaryof the university, the institutetook the lead in forming the Zhejiang Distinguished English Teacher Alliance, and alsoformed apartnership with middle school principals and distinguishedteachers who graduated from the college. In2019,the conference of distinguished teachers fromJiangsu,Zhejiang,Shanghai,BeijingandGuangzhouwasheld,withmorethan1,000participants attending the event.
